I love light, and days filled with sunshine are my favorite. There is just something so invigorating about a sunny day. It feels as if all is right with the world and the day is filled with possibilities. I have energy and the mindset to tackle anything.
The days when it is rainy or gloomy? Not so much.
If the sun is not shining, I do not feel the urge to accomplish anything. In fact, quiet activities, or even lazing in bed, seem just right for those kinds of days.
Every day is a blessing
I remember once I expressed my feelings about gloomy days in a Sunday School class. I was sort of surprised when one guy piped up, “I disagree, this is the day the Lord made. We are told to rejoice in it. It doesn’t matter whether it is sunny or rainy, He is sending us what we need.”
Well … he is right. Who am I to say what kind of weather we need for each day? After all, precipitation is needed for obvious reasons; but so are winds to help propagate plants. Freezing temperatures kill off bugs. Clouds help shade when the sun is too intense. And, of course, sunshine causes crops to grow.
I will be thankful every day; however, I will enjoy sunshiny days a bit more!
This post was written in response to the prompt, “sunshine,” provided by the Five Minute Friday writing community. We write for 5 minutes on the prompt, and it is surprising how different each post reads. (Graphics, headings and scriptures take longer!)

My post started out the same way – feeling gloomy on cloudy days. It’s a gift to be content and joyful no matter what the weather though! Visiting from FMF#8
Oh boy, Jerralea, I love sunny days too, and YES they make me happy. I do struggle with my mood on cloudy, rainy days. I am still learning to be thankful for EVERY day, after all this is the day the Lord hath made……
I enjoyed reading your post. Yes we are to give thanks for every day’s weather, but it’s especially nice when we have a day where the weather is just as we like it.
The rain comes down, the grass comes up,
the sun shines on the morning dew,
and my overflowing cup
of joy is clear and true,
for God has made all of the days
(so glad He never takes a break!),
and each has cool stuff to amaze
that no day is itself mistake,
but only holds the flaws we bring
to scar its memory;
if instead we choose to sing
with words of purity,
these precious times in grace live on
long after we’re to Heaven gone.
I think I am an odd duck. Because it is so hot in Texas, I like overcast days so much better!
Beautiful!
Jerralea, Colorado has lots and lots of sunshine-y days each year. This year, when we’ve had an unusual amount of rain, cooler-than-normal temperatures, and more clouds than usual, I find myself extra happy on days when we have sunshine. We should rejoice in each day, but there’s no shame in preferring the sunny ones. 😉
