Let all things be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40 NKJV
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Psalm 37:23 NKJV
Order is important. If my surroundings are a hot mess, I’m on a slippery slope of sliding into chaos.
It’s so much better for me to go ahead and clean up an area before I tackle a project in that space. I’ll be much more creative and efficient if everything is orderly.
My heavenly Father is also a God of order. When He was creating the church and giving spiritual gifts, He also gave an order on how they were to be used. (Read all of chapter 14 of 1 Corinthians).
Church services are to equip us for ministry. We can’t minister if we’ve been in an atmosphere of chaos. We can’t be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit if the things of this world have blinded and distracted us. We can’t be a good witness if we’ve used our gifts and talents out of order and confused those who are looking at our example.
The good things is, God has promised to order our steps, or lead us in the way we should go, if we are in right-standing with Him. Being in right-standing is key, which simply means to be living as close to God as possible, being obedient and quick to ask forgiveness when we mess up.
If we will do that, our journey will be rich and satisfying – both to Him and to us!

Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to start a conversation about order. Are you for it, or against it?
I’m sharing this post at the Five Minute Friday community as well as at Grace and Truth, Inspire Me Monday, Tell His Story, InstaEncouragements Link-Up, Let’s Have Coffee, Recharge Wednesday, Tune In Thursday
Amen!
Glad we agree! Thanks for coming!
It’s so true – when I clean up before I tackle a project, not only does the project go more easily, but I have peace while I’m doing it – there aren’t little foxes tearing at the vines! I am glad God is a God of order and not chaos!
Those little foxes can cause all kinds of mischief! Thanks for dropping by, Mary Leigh.
I definitely thrive much better in an orderly environment! One of the homes I visit is always in such physical chaos that I have a hard time relaxing there.
It’s true! Order is so restful.
Good to see you!
I often don’t like putting things in order, but the sense of peace I have when I’ve done the job is something that helps convince me that God has put that desire for order in our hearts.
Kym, that’s a great way to look at it! We are just following our Father when we put things in order.
Good to see you!
I can’t function in chaos, so I try to pay attention to regular routines that keep it in check.
Routine is my friend.
Good to see you, Michele!
Oh, I thrive on order! And, yes, I see the necessity and beauty in it even in the church – just as it is at home, my personal life etc!
Yes! There is an order to the whole universe; so our worlds of church and home need order, too.
Thanks, Jennifer!
Chaos make my head spin and I can’t think my way forward. I thrive best with a sense of order or routine.
Me, too! Getting out of chaos is always a wise choice.
Thanks for visiting, Joanne!
A cluttered physical space leads to clutter in the mind and spirit!
Amen! I work really hard at removing physical clutter – and I’ve a long way to go!
Thanks for visiting!
