Keep me [in Your affectionate care, protect me] as the apple of Your eye; Hide me in the [protective] shadow of Your wings. Psalm 17:8 AMP
I think of myself as an introvert with a few extroverted tendencies; as in, it is no problem for me to teach or speak to a crowd. However, on a one to one basis, I’m often at a loss for words.
You Can Have the Spotlight; Give Me the Light of His Presence
So, for me as a daughter of Christ, I have no wish to have the limelight. In fact, often after teaching a class, I really do not want to be called upon to do anything else in front of people. I do not want the focus to be on me; but on Jesus.
I can think of nothing more delightful than to be under the wing of my Savior! I would like to be as close to Him as I could be. It is safe there. I’m comforted there. I’m protected.
There is food to feed on in His presence. The joy of feeling the presence of the Master of the Universe is far above anything else I could be doing with my time.
Sitting in the Lap of My Shepherd
When the grandkids were small, they loved sitting in PaPa’s lap. Sometimes he was reading to them or they were playing; often they were just watching television together. They just liked being there with him.
I want to do the same with Jesus. Maybe He will whisper words of wisdom to me. Or maybe we will just enjoy one another’s presence. I just want to be there with Him.
He has promised to never leave me or forsake me; but I kind of think being under the shadow of His wings means I’m taking a step even closer to Him.
Where do you like to be?
Protect me from harm; keep an eye on me as you would a child who is reflected in the twinkling of your eye. Yes, hide me within the shelter of your embrace, under your outstretched wings. Psalm 17:8 TPT

This post was written in response to the prompt, “hide,” given to the community at Five Minute Friday. In interest of full disclosure, I did write for 5 minutes, and then took more time choosing photos and headings.

Thank you, Paula! So glad it touched you. Happy Thanksgiving week!
this is beautiful. It really touched me.
Thanks for sharing.
P.S. “I think of myself as an introvert with a few extroverted tendencies; as in, it is no problem for me to teach or speak to a crowd. However, on a one to one basis, I’m often at a loss for words.” — this sounds like me too, LOL.
Sandra, so glad to know I’m not the only one! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
I love that verse from Psalms – one of my (many) favorites. When my oldest son was very little, he was cuddling on my lap one evening and got right up in my face and stared very intently into my eyes. Finally he said “you have me in your eyes, Mommy!” Just like the TPT translation says. I taught him Psalm 17:8 very shortly afterwards.
Kym, thank you so much for sharing that sweet story! Blessings to you!
This is fine post and where I want to be too. Hidden in the cleft of the rock…that photo surely reminds me of what a cleft of the rock might look like! Until seeing this photo, I somehow imagine the cleft to be tiny but no longer. God is far bigger than what I had imagined. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Thanks, Linda. I had hoped people would think of being hidden in the cleft of the rock when they saw my picture. Yes, I believe God is bigger than we can possibly imagine. Happy Thanksgiving to you!
