I’ve lived two-thirds of my life, so far. (If I live into my late 90s). Regrets? Yes, I do have a few; but for the most part, I would make the same choices all over again.
I would just make them sooner.
Press Forward
Instead of looking back, I want to press forward. I’m praying the last third of my life will be the most productive of them all.
It is exciting to think what may be ahead for me. I’ve dreamed of writing books and traveling and speaking about the things God has shown me. Maybe God has something more for me on this latter part of my journey.
My Greatest Desire
My greatest desire is to point someone to Jesus. I hope to use my words and my love of studying to accomplish things for the kingdom; or perhaps intercessory prayer may be the jewel in the crown of my life’s work.
Start Where I Am
I can start with my family. I remember overhearing my Granny’s nighttime prayers when I once lived with her a few months. She could be heard praying over each member of her family. She especially called all her children and grandchildren’s names to the Lord. Every. Day.
I believe prayers live on after a person goes Home to be with the Lord. I also think some of us who knew her could pick up the mantle and carry on her work, just as the biblical prophet Elisha did for Elijah. Elisha ended up doing twice as many miracles as Elijah. I’m sure my family is larger now than when Granny interceded for us.
How Wonderful It Would Be To Pray Family Into The Kingdom!
Jesus said all things are possible to the believer and is even willing to increase our faith if we but ask.
What’s holding me back? Anything is possible.

Today’s post was written in response to the prompt, “possibility,” provided by the Five Minute Friday community of writers. We all write for 5 minutes on one word. It’s amazing to see the different direction each writer takes.
In the interest of full disclosure, I wrote for 5 minutes; then took extra time to finish my last point, choose photos, headings and scriptures to illustrate my post.

Mark 9:24 is one of my favorite prayers <3
Yes, I’m so glad the Bible includes this prayer letting us know it is perfectly acceptable to ask for help regarding our faith.
Thanks for dropping in, Siv!
That’s an interesting possibility – prayers living on after the person who prayed them has gone to be with the Lord. I like that thought, and it makes sense because God is outside of time.

I love the point you made, Kym. God is outside of time. After all, He existed before time was even created!
After I have left this place,
and to others, dead and gone,
it will be a gentle grace
to know my prayers live on,
like a well-loved overcoat
or a warm fur hat,
or my wooden fishing boat,
which is passed on so that
others may be warm, have fun,
and eventually
at the going down of sun
may remember me,
and lift a pint at evening’s end
to who I was, and Christ, my friend.
I love that! Yes, it would be a gentle grace to know our prayers live on.
Thanks, Andrew.
The journey is indeed full of possibilities. I’ve heard people ask questions like, am I too old to get my doctorate degree, or say something like I’m too old to put myself back out there to meet someone new and my response is always the same: anything is possible while we are alive. Go for it!
Yvonne, I was just talking to my pastor about this and he pointed out Moses. His life’s work didn’t even show up until he was 80! Who knows what is around the bend in our life journey?
I love this post, Jerralea! We are never too old to follow God’s plan, and He has a plan for us even in older age.
Yes, He does. We might retire from our day-jobs, but that doesn’t mean He is finished with us. Not at all. The best might be yet to be!
Your sense of adventure and determine are encouraging, Jerralea! I love it.
Thanks, Lisa. Why not believe for something big?
You brought back wonderful memories of my Gram, Jerralea. When she would watch us, before getting into bed, she would have us kneel beside our bed and pray. She would pray for each one in our family by name. I have no doubt her prayers have lived on and are still living on.
What a precious memory, Joanne! We grandmothers can have a huge impact in our grandchildren’s lives. What bothers me is the thought of kids with no one to pray for them.
Amen! Praying for family (and for my students) is a daily habit for me.
I do believe anything is possible with God. Thank you for reminding us to pray for our family members near and far. I am so glad you shared with us at Grace & Truth Link-Up, and I am sharing on Pinterest.
FYI: I, too, want to continue with possibilities in the last one-third of my life.
Jerralea, I am featuring your post on our link-up tomorrow on Embracing the Unexpected | Maree Dee.
Jerri, this is simply beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.
I’m at the same stage of life, and I so look forward to what God has for me in the last third–hoping and trusting for many years yet to come. There are many things I would like to do, but I am asking for His guidance. I just shared with someone else one of my favorite verses on aging: “They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him” (Psalm 92:14-15).
How wonderful that you heard your Granny praying over family members. And I love this, “I believe prayers live on after a person goes Home to be with the Lord.” Yes, I agree. We often underestimate the power of prayer and what it accomplishes.
I want to leave a legacy for my family like your granny did for you! Yes! Anything is Possible with Christ Jesus!
