“… casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
One of the premier scriptures that comes to mind when I think of God’s care is Peter’s admonition to cast your care on the Lord.
What is casting?
One of the reasons I love this scripture is the mental image I have of casting my cares. Casting makes me think of fishing. A fisherman does not just hold his pole over the water and hope a fish jumps up onto the hook. No, there is an art to casting. You throw it with great force away from you.
In the same way, casting your care takes effort. It is not laying down your burdens, it is forcefully throwing them away. Sometimes, you might have to tell yourself over and over, “I’ve cast my care on the Lord,” because the enemy will whisper worries to your mind. Eventually, your brain will believe what your heart did, and you can tell that old snake, “I cast my care, so get lost, satan.”
All your cares?
The scripture says to cast all your cares: not just the big, bad, scary thoughts, but all the small nagging feelings that plague you day by day. Every question and concern you might have falls under the umbrella of His caring.
Cast it where?
We are to cast our cares UPON Him. He is the only one with broad enough shoulders. Sometimes we try to cast our concerns on our spouse, or our best friend, a parent or some kind of advisor. There is value in relating your struggles; but if you are looking for a solution, only He can really do something about it. He either removes the problem or makes a way through it for you, always walking by your side as you make your way through.
(My 5 minutes is up. Why does it always seem my time runs out before my last point?)
Why?
Why cast your care? Because God cares about YOU. You are precious to Him. He notices everything about you – why He even numbers the hairs on your head! Scripture teaches that even if a sparrow falls down, He knows it. Someone who takes that much notice of us would only do that if we were important to him. He invites you to share your burden with Him which reminds me of another famous scripture:
βAre you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis.” Matthew 11:28 TPT

Thank you for your kind words. They are calming to me.
Thanks for your visit, Paul!
I love this. Have never thought about the casting being a forceful thing. But it makes such sense. Anyone who has tried has found it a difficult thing to give them to Him and let go.
Yes! It takes effort. But it really does get easier, the more you do it.
Thanks for coming by, Lauren!
One of my mom’s favorite scriptures!
Hey, Susan! Yes, many people love this simple, but powerful, verse!
We love to fish and casting is something we enjoy π We are to cast our cares …”He either removes the problem or makes a way through it for you” .. So grateful He is with us in all our cares.
I know, right? What do people do who have not accepted the gift of Jesus shepherding them through life? I can’t imagine it!
So glad you added to the conversation, Joanne!
I need to be reminded of this again and again. It’s not easy for me to cast my care, but it’s what the Lord asks me to do and it’s for my own benefit!
Me, too. It’s funny how we need to be reminded over and over of things that are good for us!
Thanks for coming by, Lisa!
I love this imagery, and if we give up casting –no fish!
We have not because we cast not? Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
I love how God always has something for us to do to get our blessing – He doesn’t plop them on us, but invites us to participate by taking the first step.
Always good to see you, Michele!
