Welcome to Day 5 of my Write 28 Days series, “A Rich and Satisfying Life.”
Although I’ve dwelt mainly with physical clutter in this series, even more important is the clutter of the soul. So many wrong attitudes and mindsets can rob you from an abundant life.
I feel this is a good time to insert the main scripture inspiration for “A Rich and Satisfying Life,” John 10:10
Jesus goes on to say He is the good shepherd and sacrifices His life for the sheep. (You should read all of John 10!)
I freely admit I’m a sheep. I need guidance, because I don’t know the best things for me. I’ve went astray many times. Sometimes I didn’t mean to go the wrong direction; and sometimes I’ve jumped in feet first.
It’s good being His sheep
But as soon as I’m willing to submit to the Shepherd; Oh my! What benefits follow!
As my Shepherd, He promises freedom from lack, rest in quiet places, guidance, renewed strength, companionship in dark places, protection and comfort, food to feast on, water to drink, anointing, abundance of blessing; and as if that were not enough, He says his mercy and unfailing love are going to chase me down.
Study Psalm 23 sometime. It will make your heart swell with blessing!
Since He created sheep, He knows how they are. Yet He still wants them. In fact, the Shepherd also promises He will give His life for the sheep.
So, why are the sheep so easily convinced He is done with them? Could they be listening to that old wolf in sheep’s clothing, the Devil?
As for me, I’m purging doubt from my innermost being and replacing it with scripture telling me of my Shepherd’s love for me. Join me?
I’m joining a host of writers participating in Write28Days Challenge 2022 sponsored by Anita Ojeda. My life being what it is, I’m starting 3 days behind, but writing 28 days does not have to be defined by the month of February. I’m simply promising to write for 28 days. If life interrupts, as it often does, I may have to skip a day here and there. The goal is to write 28 times on my subject, “A Rich and Satisfying Life,” consecutively … or not!

Day 4 – Nesting to Prepare for a Rich and Satisfying Life

I love the imagery in Psalm 23. We are so like sheep, aren’t we? Wonderful reminder today, and blessing to you on your 28-day jaunt.
It seems the longer I live, the more I realize how sheep-like I am!
Thanks for dropping by, Ashley!
Jerralea, something about the relationship of sheep wit their shepherd is so comforting! Psalm 23 portrays that relationship so well.
Donna, I just want to be the sheep that is always pressing in by His side.
Good to see you!
In my quiet time yesterday, I read sheep do not drink from rushing waters. Because of the weight of their coats, they could get caught up in the current and drown. Then I visualized the still waters and the peace that exudes from that. Made me think about how we can get caught up in the “rushing waters” of life and feel overwhelmed.
In this translation, I love how David moves from He to You. So touching and so personal. So relevant today.
Lisa, thank you for sharing about the rushing waters. I had not read that before but it makes perfect sense why the shepherd would lead sheep to quiet waters.
Thanks for adding to the conversation!
We truly are so like sheep. Your post brought back a book I have read and re-read so many times – A Shepherd’s Look at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller. His words and insights never fail to bless me. May we willingly submit to the tender care of our Shepherd.
Yes! I love that book by W. Phillip Keller! It is such a great resource for studying Psalm 23.
Glad you dropped by, Joanne!
I so very much need a shepherd – a shepherd who seeks good for his flock like Jesus does! I also am glad that if he made me a sheep, he doesn’t expect me to be what I am not!
